Review of hypoallergenic soybean and peanut crops

Eliminating allergenic proteins from crop plants is one possible tool for managing food allergies. Given that legumes are a rich source of protein, but are also common sources of food allergens, they have been a target of research into hypoallergenic crop production. A recent review describes efforts to produce hypoallergenic cultivars of soybean and peanut, and discusses the challenges that need to be overcome before such products could be available in the marketplace.
