One-step PCR method for pecan and Brazil nut allergens

Scientists in the Czech Republic have developed a one-step polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method for the simultaneous detection of the major allergens of pecan and Brazil nuts.
The method, which is reported to have a practical detection limit of 0.1% w/w, was used to detect the presence of pecans, Brazil nuts and other different nut species or nuts generally in 63 samples. Pecans and Brazil nut allergens were identified in 15 of the samples tested, and these results were in line with the declarations on the product labels.
