New formula trialled for milk allergic children

A team of researchers at the St Mary's Hospital in London are seeking cow’s milk allergic infants under the age of two years to participate in a trial of a new hypoallergenic milk formula. Researchers intend to first confirm the diagnosis of cow’s milk allergy in the participants by a double blinded placebo controlled food challenge, and then conduct another blinded cross over food challenge for 5 days where the new milk is introduced on one of the days.

Unless a child suffers an adverse reaction, they will continue with the second phase of the trial to receive either Neocate or the new formula to trial at home for 2 weeks. During this time, the study team will follow up the children at home by regular phone calls and then assess again at a final visit in week 5.
