More evidence linking vitamin D deficiency and food allergies

A US study using data from 3,100 children/adolescents and 3,400 adults who participated in a nationwide health survey has found that children with low blood serum levels of vitamin D were more likely to have both food and environmental allergies than those with higher levels of the vitamin.

Data obtained from adults in the study showed no association between serum vitamin D levels and allergic sensitisation. These results add to the growing body of evidence linking vitamin D deficiency and allergies. However, the authors of this study conclude that more work is needed to confirm their findings.
