Milk allergy increasing in prevalence and persistence

There appears to be an increasing prevalence and persistence of cow's milk allergy. A study involving seventy-nine children in Portugal was conducted to characterise a population of children whose cow’s milk allergy has persisted beyond two years of age. The mean age of the children when they first exhibited allergy symptom was 3 months. Results showed 53% of the study group had a family history of atopy. By the age of 10 years, 44% of children were found to still have cow's milk allergy.
