Coeliac Disease is now recognised as an underdiagnosed life-long disease affecting over 250,000 Australians (prevalence 1:70-250 caucasians and west Asians) with a range of presentations. Every year, the Coeliac Society draws greater attention to this growing public health concern through Coeliac Awareness Week. From March 13th to 20th 2008, doctors, food service staff, food manufacturers and the general public will be provided with more information and resources to help more people understand the disease and the challenges of living on a gluten free diet. A series of events will be hosted throughout the week, providing information such as the latest research and management information about coeliac disease and other related conditions.
