A universal allergy therapy | A universal allergy therapy |
|
Swiss researchers are working towards a universal allergy therapy using a molecular decoy. This therapy aims to work by distracting the overactive immune system, making the body behave as if it is under attack by a bacterium. The distraction diverts any reaction away from otherwise harmless allergens. Initial experiments have recorded a 61% reduction in symptoms among volunteers with allergies to either house dust or cat dander. The team plan further and larger studies on a broader range of allergens, as well as tests of the long term effectiveness and safety of the treatment.
