Cadbury adds milk advisory label to Dairy Milk chocolate

The Telegraph newspaper in the UK has reported that Cadbury will be adding print warnings in capital letters noting “CONTAINS: MILK” on their Dairy Milk bars. The move is to ensure consumers are aware the product contains milk, however it has been criticised as ‘stating the obvious’.

Since Dairy Milk chocolate has milk in its brand name, shows milk being poured into a chocolate piece on the wrapper and continues to use the ‘glass-and-a-half of full cream milk’ advertising message, it is likely that consumers are aware the product contains milk. A Cadbury spokesman reportedly defended the decision, saying that by providing the allergy information on the back of the package (where consumers are likely to check for this information) Cadbury is ensuring their legal requirements have been met.
