Allergen labelling review

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has begun a review of the allergen labelling requirements listed under Standard 1.2.3 of the Food Standards Code.

The review process will follow the usual format, and is expected to take at least 2 years to complete. While the review is unlikely to bring a dramatic change to the existing requirements, it is likely to include assessment of emerging allergens, as well as possible exemptions for certain products that currently require labelling yet cause no apparent public health risk.
