Accommodating allergy sufferers

Allergyfriendlyhotels.com, a worldwide directory of accommodation suited to people who suffer from allergies, including food allergies and intolerances, has recently teamed up with consumer group Allergy UK to raise their profile and provide greater assistance to allergy sufferers.

Included in the directory, which was launched in February this year, are hotels that offer special menus for people with food allergies and intolerances to foods including nuts, gluten, wheat and dairy products. To date, the directory includes over 100 properties from 7 countries. However no Australian properties are listed as yet.

In 2007 Allergy UK prepared a report on The Impact of Allergies and Asthma on People's Holidays and found that almost 75% of people feel that their allergies and asthma impact on their holidays and have to be considered when booking a holiday.
