Further research into non-coeliac gluten intolerance

A study looking at the activity of the intestinal microbiota in healthy individuals shows that it is modified by gluten intake in the diet. The results showed the incorporation of gluten in the diet increases the activity of a gluten proteolytic activity in the faeces. The study also showed the presence of faecal glutenasic activity increased proportionally with the levels of gluten intake in the diet.

Kiwifruit allergen from a different protein family

A protein named Act d 11 purified from green kiwifruit has been identified as a member of the major latex protein/ripening-related protein family. IgE binding properties, as demonstrated through tests on sensitised patients in Italy and Austria, show the protein to be an allergen.

RSSL sets up ‘Allergens in a Nutshell’ network

UK scientific consultancy company RSSL has set up a unique networking group called ‘Allergens in a nutshell’ to cover a broad range of issues related to food allergens. The company maintains the ‘Linked In’ forum was established in response to delegate feedback during the roadshows of the same name that are conducted throughout the UK by RSSL.
Food allergy in patients with eczema

A retrospective study on patients with eczema has found more than half also suffer from food allergy. Nuts and tomatoes were found to be the foods causing immediate symptoms in the majority of patients.
