Ring trial for Mustard ELISA kit

Mustard is one of the key allergens that must be labelled where it is added to foods sold in many parts of the world. A paper in the latest issue of the Journal of AOAC International reports results of a 12-laboratory ring trial using an ELISA kit developed to test for and quantify the presence of mustard in food products.

Researchers at the Institute of Food Research, Norwich have subjected the major allergens in apple and celeriac to thermal and high pressure processing to determine the impact on allergen immunoreactivity.

Allergen-free diet can help atopic dermatitis

A three-year prospective study of 100 French children with food-related severe atopic dermatitis has demonstrated the benefit of a diet free from the implicated food. The authors believe food elimination diets are not utilised enough in the management of atopic dermatitis.
