The Australian Food Standards Code stipulates that the presence in manufactured food of any of the major food allergens must be labelled – however small the amount. The allergens that must be labelled are peanuts and tree nuts, cereals containing gluten, sesame, soybeans, eggs, milk, fish and crustacea. Products derived from any of these substances must also be labelled if they are used. Added sulphites must also be labelled where present at more than 10mg/kg in the final food.
