Welcoming guests with food allergies into a restaurant
The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) has recently published a 58-page guide 'Welcoming Guests With Food Allergies' for restaurants and food service establishments. FAAN is a USA-based nonprofit organization established to raise public awareness, to provide advocacy and education, and to advance research on behalf of all those affected by food allergies and anaphylaxis.
The information provided in the guide is designed to be adapted to the needs of individual establishments. Targeted sections contain specific information for restaurant managers and staff, including strategies to help them successfully fulfil their role in ensuring a safe dining experience for guests with food allergies.
As well as a good overview of food allergy, allergy statistics and USA-relevant legal information, a number of useful tools and reference cards are provided to help ensure consumers and staff are able to effectively communicate accurate information.
Tips and strategies for both staff and guests make this an invaluable resource for food service establishments and consumers with food allergies alike. The document is available free to download at www.foodallergy.org/downloads/welcomingguests.pdf, or contact the Allergen Bureau.
