Understanding the impact of coeliac disease in the UK

A research survey project led by researchers at the University of Birmingham and funded by Coeliac UK is currently being conducted to look at psychological and social factors in coeliac disease.

The team are interested in learning more about the experiences of people living with coeliac disease, what they find easy or difficult about it, what they understand about coeliac disease and how they feel about it.

The researchers state there has been very little research conducted in this area in the UK, however research carried out in other countries suggests that some people find living with coeliac disease more difficult than others and that the levels of things like anxiety and depression might be higher in some people with coeliac disease than in those without it.

The results of the study are intended to help identify some of the reasons why some people find coeliac disease more difficult to live with than others, and find ways to help the people who find it more difficult to manage.
