Podcast on Food Allergies: The Patient's Perspective

ReachMD features a program called Hot topics in Allergy, with the shows in this series available for download as podcasts. Earlier this year the program's host, allergist Dr Todd Mahr, interviewed Ms Anne Muñoz-Furlong, founder and CEO of the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN). The interview covers the challenges facing patients with food allergies.

Ms. Anne Muñoz-Furlong answers questions such as:

  • How does a food allergy diagnosis impact on a patient's quality of life?
  • How does a family cope once their child has had a reaction?
  • Can a school be peanut free, and
  • What does 'peanut free' mean?

Ms Muñoz-Furlong goes on to describe the Food Allergy Action Plan available in six different languages on the FAAN website, and discusses the importance of physicians and families working together in the management food allergies. She calls for better methods for recording the incidence of food allergy induced anaphylaxis, including fatalities.
