EuroPrevall launches food allergy website for industry
The EuroPrevall project has developed a website on the management of food allergens aimed at the food industry. The website content has been produced by the National Food Institute at the Technical University of Denmark in collaboration with leading allergy experts from the food industry, patient organisations, clinical centres, and research institutions throughout Europe.
The site www.foodallergens.info provides a vast amount of information about food allergy, from the basics such as food allergy prevalence, possible causes, prevention, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, through to HACCP, food safety requirements and allergen labelling legislation.
A number of useful links are provided, with direct access to the InformAll database that contains detailed information about almost 100 potentially allergenic foods, and guidance on how to handle food allergens from both the food production and food auditing perspectives.
While not endorsing any of the guidelines presented on the website, a number of international guidance documents are set out, including the Australian Food and Grocery Council's Food Industry Guide to Allergen Management and labelling and the VITAL risk assessment tool.
