EAACI launches a new open-access allergy journal
The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) has launched its first open access scientific journal, 'Clinical and Translational Allergy'. The journal becomes the third major journal published by EAACI and aims to provide a greater platform for publication of original allergy-immunology research, reviews and EAACI-developed position papers.
According to the EAACI media release, their other journals, Allergy and Pediatric Allergy and Immunology, are limited in their ability to publish a considerable number of the high quality articles received; therefore a further publication was required. It was also felt that Open Access was crucial for any new EAACI journal, as this makes published research available to the general public without any need for subscriptions.
The new journal will be able to provide a very rapid peer-review process and all manuscripts accepted for publication will be immediately published online, as the publication date is not impacted by publication of a printed issue.
The inaugural issue published in June 2011 features one position paper and three reviews. These can be accessed freely at www.ctajournal.com.
