AAAAI provides on-line videos on allergy and asthma

The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma Immunology (AAAAI) is the largest professional medical organization in the United States focussed on allergy and immunology. Experts from the organisation have created video explanations interviews describing what they would do if faced with a particular medical problem.

The videos have been produced for Insider Medicine, and they are now available on the AAAAI website.

Among the topics featured in the videos are:

  • If I had a child with food allergy by Dr. Scott Sicherer, MD, Mount Sinai School of Medicine
  • If I had a child with lip and tongue swelling after eating peanut butter by Dr. Michael Pistiner, Leominster, MA
  • If I had a child and an atopic family by Dr. James Sublett, MD, FACAAI, FAAAAI, FAAP, University of Louisville School of Medicine

Each of the videos is around five minutes in length, and collectively they provide a novel means of communicating information about the development of food allergies, food allergy management, anaphylaxis, and emergency preparedness. Dr Scott Sicherer spends some time describing the current US labelling requirements in relation to the key food allergens of concern, and touches on the use of advisory labelling by the food industry.

While the videos are targeted at consumers concerned about allergies, the information may provide a useful addition to staff training information in food manufacturing or food handling situations.

The videos can be accessed via the AAAAI website: www.aaaai.org
