A Swedish study has found patients with mild intestinal inflammation and gluten sensitivity have a higher risk of death, even if their symptoms are not severe enough to warrant a diagnosis of coeliac disease.

Canadians to label mustard

Health Canada has released its proposed new allergen labelling regulations, with mustard now included as a priority allergen. The inclusion of mustard to the new regulations is said to result from feedback and discussion with the food industry, health groups and the public. In July 2008, proposed regulatory amendments were published, and more than 140 comments were received in response.

New protocol for milk allergy desensitisation

Oral desensitisation protocols for cow's milk allergy are often long and complex, requiring participants to stay in a hospital or a similar clinical setting for extended periods of time. As an alternative strategy, researchers in Italy have recently looked at the feasibility of an oral tolerance induction protocol using a weekly up-dosing schedule designed to be more patient-friendly and easier to perform.
