6th Workshop on Food Allergen Methodologies May 2010

The Bureau of Chemical Safety in Health Canada's Food Directorate, and the Food Allergy Research and Resource Program (FARRP) from the University of Nebraska are sponsoring the Sixth Workshop on Food Allergen Methodologies to take place in Toronto, Canada on 9–12 May 2010.

The workshop aims at gathering scientists, chemists, analysts and other representatives from government agencies, university, industry and consumer associations, to discuss issues related to the detection, identification, characterization, and control of allergen residues in foods. Organisers hope that workshop outcomes will include increased consultation, information exchange, and harmonization in the area of food allergens and analytical methods for food allergens.

Topics included on the program include: The development, evaluation, validation and standardisation of allergen detection methods; Assessment and management of food allergen risks and the impact of these processes on detection method development; The on-going challenges involved with developing reference materials; and The impact of processing on food allergen detection. A number of international speakers have been invited to present at the workshop, and will provide a review of the different approaches to these topics in addition to the various regulations and control of food allergens around the world.

A poster session will also be held on Tuesday 11 May 2010.

Online registration is currently available on the FARRP website.
