The announcement of the new Australian Food and Grocery Council new Product Information Form was made by CEO Dick Wells in a media release, and the details of the form were unveiled by Patricia Verhoeven at the Allergen Bureau Conference.

The PIF is used by companies to collect information about the origins of ingredients, their composition, the presence of allergens and other information to meet the legal obligations of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. It is designed to permit all ingredient suppliers and food manufacturers to use this one document to satisfy their information needs to meet the legal obligations under the Food Standards Code.

The form is designed to provide a single template to replace the numerous company-specific information forms used across the food supply chain between suppliers and manufacturers.

A review of the earlier pilot form was initiated in June 2007 and resulted in a number of changes, such as, improved and expanded information fields, improved ease of use and provision for suppliers to include their logo on the front page of the form. The release of this new form will enhance Australian and New Zealand industry's capabilities and is one further step in developing an integrated and efficient supply chain.
